Episode 9
Fitness, focus and finding balance with Vicky Fleetwood
“Finding what’s right for you is the biggest thing, and then things just fall into place when you enjoy it.”
Whether lifting trophies or lifting weights and spirits, England’s Rugby World Cup winner Vicky Fleetwood has been there, done that, and has the polo shirt to show for it. Whether lifting trophies in big international tournaments, or working as a personal trainer motivating her clients to achieve their goals, Vicky reveals what drives her to succeed and shares tips for helping others find a balanced lifestyle.
The Commonwealth bronze-medalist and former junior hurdler talks about how she started out on her journey as a professional rugby player, from first picking up the ball as a 14-year-old, to lifting the biggest accolade in the sport. Despite rugby’s drinking culture reputation, Vicky has found her own way to manage her relationship with alcohol and shares what works for her, and why it might also work for you.
Vicky also delves into the changes she’s found in womens’ mindsets shifting from seeing the gym as a place to get skinny, to a way to get fitter and healthier, and why having a goal in mind can help achieve those targets. She also tells Ellie about the things that bring her joy in life, including why being a foodie doesn’t just mean planning nutritional intake, but can also help with relaxation.
